British Regiments and Royal Navy Ships Articles

Currently I am preparing articles on all the British Regiments and Royal Navy Ships which served in New Zealand during the Maori Wars. I look forward to details of any covers, letters or information, which may be unrecorded or new.

George

After a lapse of nearly 30 years, GEORGE is now very much alive with the copy of his 52 Letters for everyone to enjoy. GEORGE is Private George Tatler No. 3256, 65th Regiment, who served in New Zealand from April 1855 - 7 November 1868. This later date saw the demise of George Tatler, Constable Armed Constabulary.

When we visited Congleton in England where he was born, and Moturoa where he died, it was as though we had lost a member of our own family, especially after over ten years of research.

It is my hope that "GEORGE" will be the inspiration for all collectors to pursue POSTAL HISTORY, as I am sure they will get as much pleasure as I have enjoyed over the last 50 years.

Part One Part Two The Letters

As Robson Lowe (Robbie) once stated:

Stamp collecting is the Hobby
Philately the Science
and Postal History the HUMANITY

If you are at all interested in the Maori Wars then there is so much more in this book.

Postal History of Post Office OTAGO

Postal History of Post Office OTAGO

After over eight years I have decided that publication of the Postal History of Post Office OTAGO should be published electronically, rather than wait any longer for it to be a printed publication.

It will give collectors the opportunity to have the true facts on this very important Post Office and it includes comprehensive details on the OTAGO BISECTS, including Forgeries. Naturally I will be more than pleased to have your feedback.

Philipp von Ferrary was without doubt one of the greatest collector of all time.

Christmas and New Year festivities

Christmas and New Year festivities

Sorry about the three month lapse of new items, but over the Christmas and New Year festivities, I was struck down by one of the new potent viruses brought to the Island from overseas.

We then embarked on a re- roofing of our home, and while the scaffolding was in place, a complete painting job as well. To confound matters even longer, we experienced a period of very high temperatures for Auckland 45 degrees in the open sunlight, followed by torrential rain, which exceeded all previous records! Both these were completely un-seasonable.
